Hawaiian grower talking about growing papaya.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Need very good drainage.
- Papayas get higher germ rate when planted fresh out of the fruit, but dried seeds can remain viable for around a year.
- Seeds on top of soil, cover with ¼”.
- Papayas actually prefer to be root-bound.
- Papaya hate getting transplanted, especially when mature.
- Papaya grow true to seed.

Initial batch of seeds received were crushed to shit. Contacting seller to see if she'll send me more. Still trying to germ what she sent in case any are still viable. She refunded my money and I ordered a new batch of seeds from her which she will hopefully mail in a bubble wrap envelope.

Put the entire crushed batch in soil under lights. Two germed out of it, one dying almost immediately. The other grew for a few weeks, then died when transplanted to cup. These things would probably do best sowed directly into ground (many indicate this is so).
